You may not know it, but batteries and electronics are full of toxic waste products. When they are in good working order and are simply in use these products aren’t dangerous. They’re inside the case of the electronics and are unlikely to come into contact with humans or animals in any harmful way.
Once they enter a landfill these toxins can start leaching into our soil and water. Some also go to incinerators, which means these toxins enter our our supply. Every time you throw away a battery instead of recycling it you increase the chances of these toxins making their way back into the bodies of you and your loved ones.
For example, lead is a common component in many batteries and electronics. Lead in the system is a serious health threat.
One little cell phone in a landfill wouldn’t be a big deal. But Americans go through 3 million electronics and batteries every year. That’s a lot of toxic material.
Meanwhile, recyclers can recover some usable materials from batteries and electronics. This helps keep prices somewhat lower, as recovering materials is less expensive than mining for new materials.

Just drop off any battery or electronic device at our front counter during business hours. Please don’t leave batteries or devices outside the shop! We don’t have a drop box you can use. If you leave anything outside you may be liable for damages, including fire damage. We can’t be held responsible!

We work with Call2Recycle, an organization which has kept millions of pounds of electronics waste out of landfills. Their high standards ensure the batteries and electronics go exactly where you mean for them to go. Many so-called recyclers export the waste instead, sending it on to developing countries where unscrupulous entrepreneurs use workers to remove the valuable parts in unsafe conditions.
Most of Call2Recycle’s collections are recycled back directly into electronics products, which means they continue to serve the secondary mission of keeping electronics affordable as well as safe. They use every part of the battery for some purpose. What can’t be used for new batteries gets turned into asphalt, for example.
